Intern Positions

The internship experience will also include immersion into the HEAL Fellowship Global Health Training program, weekly journal clubs, seminar style discussions with various Global Health Core and HEAL Initiative faculty, and ongoing mentorship from HEAL staff and faculty. This would be a great opportunity for those interested in learning more about global health.


HEAL Initiative Interns

The HEAL Initiative is a global health delivery training program that trains healthcare professionals from the US & abroad to effectively serve in low-resource settings. We currently work in Oakland, Navajo Nation, Haiti, Liberia, India, Nepal, Mali, Mexico, and Malawi. We are seeking dedicated interns who are interested in advancing global healthcare delivery through equitable partnerships and training.

Positions:

  • HEAL Curriculum Development and Coordination Intern
  • HEAL Program Analysis and Improvement Intern
  • HEAL Digital Platforms and Communications Intern

Timeline: 

All internships start Monday, June 5th, 2017 and end Friday, August 11th, 2017 (10 weeks). 

Compensation:

Internships are unpaid but financial support may be available (See Compensation on the Internship page).

HEAL Curriculum Development and Coordination Intern

Location: Berkeley, CA; San Francisco, CA

Faculty / Staff Mentor: HEAL Curriculum Director

Project Details: HEAL Fellows take part in an immersive 3-week global health training upon starting the program. The HEAL Initiative is seeking a Curriculum Development Intern to work with our lead Curriculum Director to support the development of teaching modules and other instructional tools.

Term: June 5th, 2017- August 11th, 2017

Functions:

  1. Lead coordination of immersive training sessions (Complex Humanitarian Emergency Simulation; Ethics Simulation)
  2. Assist in the logistical planning and execution of tasks for Global Health Training day to day functions
  3. Assist in planning and coordination of Mentorship Retreat during Global Health Training program
  4. Work with curriculum leads to record key takeaways from training sessions
  5. Research online learning programs and make recommendations about best practices regarding online learning

Skills Required:

  1. Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  2. Excellent writing skills
  3. Some experience with teaching
  4. Ability to work some nights and weekends to implement HEAL trainings / activities.
  5. Ability to show initiative, multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  6. An interest in learning more about global health

HEAL Program Analysis and Improvement Intern

Location: Berkeley, CA; San Francisco, CA

Faculty / Staff Mentor: HEAL Program Director

Term: June 5th, 2017- August 11th, 2017

Specifically intern(s) will be responsible for:

  1. Work with the core M&E team leaders to build M&E survey and assessment tools.
  2. Attend M&E related meetings with partners to learn implementation constraints and needs.
  3. Create a map of effective mentorship models and work with Mentorship Director to enhance the HEAL Mentorship Program
  4. Assist HEAL in maximizing efficiency and spending by conducting comparative analyses among varying options in key areas
  5. Work with finance staff to analyze trends in spending and improve financial systems

Skills Required:

  1. Some research experience with survey software or tools
  2. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  3. Experience with survey software tools
  4. Ability to show initiative, multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadline
  5. An interest in learning more about global health

HEAL Digital Platforms and Communications

Location: Berkeley, CA; San Francisco, CA

Faculty / Staff Mentor:  HEAL Program Coordinator

Project Details: We are currently looking to plan our recruitment campaign, manage communication platforms, and develop marketing materials to promote the HEAL Initiative to adequately engage with stakeholders. The intern will work closely with the HEAL team to develop print and electronic materials for use in brochures, newsletters, and infographics. The intern will also serve a web and design lead for the HEAL Initiative website. This internship will be from June 1st to August 15th with the possibility of extension.

Term: June 5th, 2017- August 11th, 2017

Specifically intern(s) will be responsible for:

  1. Develop social media materials and calendar for fellow recruitment, including graphics, videos, one pagers
  2. Conduct a comparative analysis of other global health programs to advise recruitment
  3. Populate and maintain the HEAL Fellow Portal (WordPress)
  4. Serve as web design lead editor for the HEAL Initiative website
  5. Transfer the HEAL fellow blog onto a more public platform and manage

Skills Required:

  1. Experience in Social Media platforms
  2. Background in Visual Communications or Web Design recommended.
  3. Experience with WordPress or other website software.
  4. Familiarity with using online learning platforms or modules.
  5. Some experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
